Don't Get Mislead By Your SEO Company

By Julie Johnson

1. When you are looking for a reliable SEO company the first thing to look at is that they are not making unrealistic promises. If they tell you that they can have your site ranking number one within the first month, this is an unrealistic goal and you may want to think twice about using this company.

2. Results take time and are gradual, not immediate.

3. You want to do business with an SEO company that is able to properly communicate what services you are paying for, and how they work. If they use a lot of words that you are not understanding, and are not fully explaining what it is they will do for your company, then you may want to reconsider utilizing their services.

4. Once you have an SEO company in mind, you should check out their page ranking and the ranking of some of their customers. Most SEO companies will supply you with a reference list of customers for you to look at page ranks, these ranks should be goof, and if not you need to reconsider using this company. A good rule of thumb to follow: If a company is not obtaining good page ranking for current customers, your sites will not be the companies exception.

5. There are many scams out there, so you should beware! Signs that the company is not legit include: shadow domains, when keywords are included in the address bar, if you are unable to tell the difference between your search result and advertisements, requests your FTP account information or root access to your server, and various other suspicious activities.

6. A company that requires long phrase keywords should also be approached with caution. Long phrases is not a great way to achieve good rankings. Your keywords should be relevant, and not something that is unlikely for someone to be looking up on the Internet.

7. You should never be required to link to the SEO, as this is often inadvisable and has no affect on search rankings.

8. Never be ashamed to ask questions. This is one of the best ways that you can find out about the company history and the services that they provide. If you are embarrassed to ask questions it may cost you money in the end, so keep asking those questions until they are all answered and everything you wanted to know about the company history and services has been covered.

If you are dealing with an SEO company and you feel that you have been mislead you should contact the Federal Trade Commission, in Washington, DC.
