Improve Your Web Site With SEO

By Cheryl L. True

Search engine optimization (SEO) is a method of helping web sites become more popular with search engines. Having better Internet traffic means plenty of people are interested in your site. This, in turn, means you'll have more possible customers and improved sales. Pulling in people to your site generally takes time. But with SEO, this job becomes a piece of cake. To make SEO do wonders to your web site, here are vital points to remember:

Title - The HTML title tag is a very crucial element and must possess the most pertinent keywords or phrases that tell about the products or services in the web page. It shouldn't have over 60 characters.

Keywords - The HTML meta keyword tag should contain all keyword phrases that promote your products or services. Don't repeat keywords and avoid capital letters. These shouldn't go over 250 characters.

Web page text - It's best to have good articles in each page of your web site with the right keywords. Articles should reach at least 200 words or above. Informative text should be seen in the HTML body section of the web page.

HTML code validation - Search engine's crawlers become more efficient when indexing web pages with no html errors. Bear in mind that errors can make search engine crawlers give up indexing web pages. So check your work carefully.

Links - These are very important to search engines. The quality of links determines how important your web page is. So don't just link up with any other web site but choose those with higher page ranks to make your site stand out.

Registering with directories and search engines - In closing, make it a point to register your web site with directories and search engine web sites. This is a great way of telling the world that your web site exists. Stay away from automatic search engine/directory registration.
