Choosing the "Right" Keywords to be Found on Google

By Jay NaPier

When web surfers need to find information quickly and do not know the exact address of the website, they would head to their favorite search engine (usually Google) and type what they are looking for. Depending on their search phrase, hundreds to millions of results can show up with the first 10 found on the same page. These 10 results are the sites that are most relevant to the keyword phrase.

After your site is finished you want to get the site in the search engines. Google is #1, so that's where your focus should be. Start by submitting your site to the Google submission page, your site will appear in about a month.

But you won't be getting heavy traffic to your website until your website is fully optimized. Keywords are a major component and must be present on your site. It could be really easy at first for you to associate your website will three or four keyword phrases that describe your website and incorporating those keywords into your site content is a fantastic way to get started.

But you need to think out of your own box and think about what other people would search to find what they looking for. There are millions of people worldwide that use Google to search and they have their own ways of typing their search phrases. There are some popular keyword phrases that are highly competitive and will take you time to have your page listed on the top with those phrases.

List as many keyword phrases as you think of and sprinkle them across other pages so that other areas of your website get indexed in a different way. Be careful not to overdo this step and put too many keywords or else your content may not make sense and push visitors away.

One little trick I use is to look at the top sites for your keywords. What keywords are they using? Add those to your list. Take a look at their content and see if you can do some of the same things on your websites that they've done. How often do they use the keywords? Research is one of the best tools you have.

Ask your friends for help. If they were going to look for a fat free pizza dough, what would they search for? Doing this can help you find out how others think and what they would type into the search box. There are even some great tools provided by Google. Google's keyword tool is fantastic, and you can find it by doing a search.

When you've got the keywords you want to use, now you simply wait and see how things go. Check your ranking by doing your own search to see where you fall in. Patience is the most important key to success. It can take several weeks to get where you want to be, but it's worth it. For immediate front page results, you can use Google Adwords.
