Cheap Domain Names Reviews

By Amanda Gamdana

A person needs to know where you are going to visit a web site, and an address must be entered. The string of characters that is entered is normally a phrase or word telling us a business or product name, a site name or a description of the content of the site. There is a vital difference between the domain names offered at no cost and those offered by companies that specialize in cheap domain names. A free web hosting company will not usually want to invest in a new domain name and so will usually offer domains that are extensions of their own name to their customers.

This means that when typing in the sub domain name the hosting company's domain must be included. A third level domain name is that the name is long and often tricky to recall which can be a big problem with them. This difficulty means that it is often better to buy your own individual domain name. There are many cheap domain name companies so finding an affordable one is quite easy.

Cheap domain names can be free or they can range in price up to around seven dollars. Free domain names are usually only available in a bundle with paid for web hosting, so while technically free the customer is in reality still paying for it. Paying for a domain name usually means that you can get it without a bundles web hosting package. You can pay anything from one dollar up for a paid for domain name.

The registration process does not distinguish the price you pay for the domain - the overall method is the same, whether it is a cheap domain name or not. When purchasing a domain name, checking that it is still available for purchase is the first step. To find out if the desired name is still available then a customer will enter the name into an appropriate text box and select the extension wanted. The customer will then be informed of the status of the chosen domain name, if it is unavailable then another must be chosen, if it is then there is the option to buy it. If the desired name is occupied then helpful companies will usually offer some suggestions for different names.

The advantage of using cheap domain names is that it is possible never to receive the domain name if you try to purchase it through an unscrupulous company. The company will tell the customer that the domain will not be active immediately and that they will have to wait for some time. Unfortunately a customer usually finds that they have discovered an unscrupulous company when their e-mails to customer services, explaining that their domains are still inactive, go unanswered.

A good first step to making sure that a person hasn't found a fraudulent company is to check with the better Business Bureau and find out if the cheap domain name company is registered. Making sure that businesses operate in a way that is acceptable and not fraudulent is what the Better Business Bureau does. The next way to protect yourself from a deceitful cheap domain name company is to check for the normal contact information such as a land based phone number and address. Checking the message boards where web masters usually congregate and find out if the company has a bad reputation is a good third step.

No one on the boards may have had dealings with the company, so you may not be able to get an opinion, this may be a warning sign. If the company you are considering is reputable then there is no other disadvantage to getting a cheap domain name with them. All domain names work in the same way whatever was paid for them, so if a person can take advantage of a company offering cheap domain names then they should.
