One mistake you can avoid when hiring a website designer

By Simon Reese-James

One of the biggest mistakes business owners make when buying a website is depending on the web designer to make all the future changes

For most business owners is it a natural assumption that your website designer will make changes to your site in the future. Web designers will often make the same assumption as it can be a nice revenue earner.

It is a key advantage for SME's to be reactive to their clients and the market. Being able to update your site to reflect changes in your offering daily on your site or fix a spelling mistake is important. Often web designers will take a long time to complete simple changes as they are too busy with other more rewarding projects.

You can have a website that allows you to make changes straight away. What you are able to change may vary with your ability to use the system. Often simple updates just involve filling in the blanks on the page or using a mini-editor similar to using word.

Ask your website designer for a content management system or CMS. These systems can be expensive but don't let this be an excuse to increase your costs by very much.

One problem that you may encounter is that CMS systems require an amount of programming ability to setup. Not all web designers have a background in programming to properly support a content managed system.

To avoid having a website that doesn't reflect your business or worse is embarrassing don't end up depending on your website designer to make future changes.
