I'm just getting started in modeling. How does this all work? Your first step is doing a photo shoot, to get 5-10 prints for your portfolio. Then schedule interviews with local modeling agencies to show them your photos. After you find an agency to represent you, you can order your composite cards (with your stats and 3-5 photos).We have a full service photo studio that is equal to the higher end studios that you would find in NYC. I've worked in many of the best rental studios in NYC over the course of 15 years photographing famous musicians for records companies and CEO of major companies such as Richard Branson.
I'm a guy. Do I need to wear makeup? No, but the most common problem is shine. It's a good idea to wash your face about an hour before your shoot. I provide powder in case you need some.A dark ribbed sweater, or a dark shirt with a collar is best. If you have blonde hair, then medium colors are better. Avoid white and light colors. Something with texture, or some sheen is also good, such as microfiber or rayon.It's entirely up to you.
How much are prints? x14 is $50, 8x10 is $20, 5x7 is $15, 4x6 is $10. Ask about volume discounts. The guarantee may not apply if the photos are for a modeling/talent agency.The bright studio lights tend to minimize makeup, so it's a good idea to wear some, even if you don't normally wear it. Also, converting to black and white also minimizes makeup.
What type of projects do you like to work on? I love to collaborate with others who want something that's innovative, original, and who are expecting the best work. The images could range from an individual portrait in the studio to spending a day or more with a family creating images on location. The location could be anywhere. Yes, I have been on Discovery Health Channel. Their film crews came to my studio recently to document the photo shoot of the Gosselin family. The Gosselin's are known worldwide for having both sextuplets and twins.Glasses can be a challenge for a good portrait. The key to a good portrait is capturing the eyes, and eyeglasses can distort or darken them, and cause unwanted reflections. If you have contact lenses, is it better to wear them instead. Or, ask your optometrist if they will loan you a pair of frames without lenses. They will often do this free of charge, or for a small refundable deposit. Or you can remove your lenses and and maybe wear a backup pair to the studio.Variety is key in a good modeling portfolio, from fun and sassy, to elegant and moody. Your clothes should be up-to-date and look like new. Use your photo shoot as an excuse to buy some new clothes! Bring several outfits, even if we don't use them all.
Do you take passport photos or green card photos? I can do these for $100, but you can get these taken at Kinko's or Bartells drugstores for less than $10.Then digital is your friend! With digital, we're not limited to the number of shots on a roll of film. You'll like at least 10% of the shots.
Do you do photo retouching? Yes. Some packages include basic retouching (softening wrinkles and lightening bags under the eyes) and prints include retouching. There may be a charge for more extensive retouching.I believe a lot of my clients come here because they want confidence in knowing their artwork will be as beautiful as the artwork they have seen on my website and in my gallery. It might surprise a lot of people but some photographers actually promote their business using other people's images. That certainly surprised me when I found that out. It's something we will never do.It's entirely up to you.
