5 Secrets For An Easy-Money Website

By Rich Trewheart

Most web pages are designed to get the reader to do something. What that something is will help you determine how to design your web page. In other words: Make sure your design leads naturally into persuading the reader of your web page into taking the action you want him or her to take. The great architect, Louis Sullivan said it clearly that "form follows function." This article will assume that you want your web page to sell something. Perhaps you have no web page right now or you have one but it isn't converting enough sales and you want to improve its performance. I have a much longer report about designing effective sales pages, and this article will discuss 5 of the techniques that will make any sales page on the web perform better.

1 - Using one color, one font and one text size is boring. Once a reader gets bored, they leave and they don't come back. Using bright contrasting colors with varied font styles and text sizes creates interest and people will stay longer on your site and read more of the information. It's a fact that people don't read web pages, they scan them. If they get bored or don't quickly get the information they want, they're gone. Using color and multiple text styles will keep them longer and give you more opportunities to sell them on your product.

2 - Make it easy to buy today and give your reader a reason to do so. Many successful marketers, both on the internet and in a bricks-and-mortar store, use special bonuses, free giveaways, one time offers, one day discounts, and other things that prod the buyer to buy today. Why does a mattress store offer free delivery or a set of free sheets, pillow cases and a comforter? Because all these things make the "good deal" on the mattress even better and give the buyer one more reason to buy. Your website must do the same. 100% sales conversion is impossible, but if you can improve your conversion by 10% or 20% you will make more money. Special incentives can help you do that.

3 - People are inherently mistrustful of buying on the internet. They have heard about scams and may have been a victim of one themselves. You have to gain their trust quickly. One way to to this is to make it easy for them to contact you. Some internet marketers are outsourcing a customer service phone or offering "instant chat" to make their potential customers feel that there is a person on the other end of the web page. Using testimonial from happy customers is also a great way to make your potential customers trust that your product will solve their problem.

4 - Always seem familiar. In other words, on your web page try to use words, colors and phrases that seem like other successful marketers. Look at other big sites and try to mimic them. If you look like Amazon in feel, color and usability, people who are familiar with Amazon will be more comfortable buying from you, even though you're obviously not Amazon. Also use logos that people recognize. For example, give them the option of paying through Paypal or Google Checkout. These things will add credibility to your page and your offer.

5 - Micro-test anything and everything. Micro-testing and split-testing allow you to see what's effective and what isn't. The concept of testing is crucial to your success. Fortunately, its not hard to do. Simply changing one word in your home page and sending half your potential customers to that page may result in a huge improvement in conversions. But you won't know unless you do the split test.
