What You Need From A Web Host

By Jon Ferraro

I know it's common knowledge that you need solid web hosting if you want to do build anything online. With a reliable web hosting company you are going to struggle to make any money online. In this article i will just go over the some thing to consider when you make your decision of which web host to use.

Of the utmost importance is reliability. Check web host's uptime history. You need to know that after your website is completed that people can actually get to the site. if all they see is an error page, you know you've got problems.

The site also has to be quick to load. People don't have the patience to sit and wait for a site to load. If they are waiting for more than 7 seconds, even if it's on a dial up connection, they're going to close the window. That's potential sale that was wiped away because of poor hosting.

You also have to be able to contact them any hour of the and any day of the week. Your website is open 24 hours a day, so should your web hosting company. If you're not getting 24 hour support from your current provider, it's time to call it quits.

If your host offers cPanel, that's just a great perk. cPanel just has an abundance of great tools for your site. You can setup your email accounts through them, so your domains and emails match. They also have great traffic tracking software.

If they have Fantastico, that's another super bonus. With fantastico, you get dozens of really neat scripts that you can automatically put on your website. Scripts, for forums, autoresponders, blogging software, surveys, etc..

You shouldn't have to sign contract when you sign up with a web hosting companies. If they are confident in the service they provide, they should be able to hold you as a customer on a month by month basis. If that isn't the case, then you might want to look someplace else.

I've just covered some of the more important aspects that you need to think about before deciding on a web host.
